ForcedPlay v0.1
Streaming MP3's is easy.

First of all, thank you for downloading ForcedPlay. Use this Readme to get started.

You have to understand that ForcedPlay is just a platform to start with. You can use it in its current form and start playing your music immediately, but you can also change its shape, color and form to anything you want. That is, if you have basic understandment of Macromedia Flash.

Now, open up the .fla file. You have to edit it, then publish it to have your .swf file, the file that plays the MP3's. If you don't have Macromedia Flash, you can download a trial here.

You will see a very simple scene setup, containing 6 layers:

  • and the music
  • tickertape
  • stream indicator
  • pause
  • buttons
  • background

The ones colored red should not be edited if you just want the thing to play MP3's.

  • Editing "and the music"-layer: First of all, every MP3 needs 2 frames to have its Forcedplay cycle. The first frame starts the mp3 and displays the song title, the second frame is just there to stop the MP3 from playing when going to the previous/next one. Something like this, so: (start MP3_1)+(stop MP3_1)+(start MP3_2)+(stop MP3_2) ... So, if you want to edit the layer, open op the action tap and replace the default MP3 name (sample1.mp3) by the name of your MP3. If you want to add more MP3's, just copy the 2 first frames on all the layers, and edit to your likings
  • Editing "tickertape"-layer: Just edit the default song titles to the ones you would like to see. Remember, do it for the 2 frames.
  • Always copy/paste the other layers (the one's colored red in my list). You don't have to change any of them.

Again, Forcedplay supports playback of MP3's at any bitrate, any length.

Now, use File->Publish to publish the SWF file. That's the file you'll need to get Forcedplay working on your webpage. Embed this flash movie in your webpage, and make sure you upload the MP3's to the same folder on your webspace.

If you don't know how to embed Flash movies, check this tutorial.
